Let the games begin!

So I am back in Delhi again ready to kick off the wedding season.
Photographing a wedding in India is usually a non stop, sleep depriving week long celebration.
So after a few days chilling out. I’m all ready for another whirlwind wedding tour of India.
It’s really amazing to be able to witness the diversity of this Country,
each region has very different customs and traditions when it comes to weddings.
I feel very privileged to be able to take part in such wonderful rituals.
So stay tuned for some highlights from my latest journey as I get an inside ticket to photograph some of the most colorful celebrations ever!

In the meantime heres a quick shot from one of my favorite places to escape the chaos in Delhi. Lodi Gardens. And a rare shot of yours truely. Namaste!

Pretty in Pink

Amina and Shafik had a simple yet beautiful Nikkah (Muslim Ceremony).

It was so nice to see such support from family and friends, many came from their home;  South Africa.

The evening reception followed at The Liberty Grand, I loved the  stunning Pink themed decor by: The perfect setting,

Wedding Planner Raana from: Sapna Weddings, was on hand to ensure the day ran smoothly. (It always does when Raana is involved!)

Congratulations Amina and Shafik, it was a beautiful day!  Here’s a few of my favorite pics.

Celebrating Diwali with Shahrukh Khan – Ra One World Premiere

I’ve heard how hard core the fans for Shahrukh Khan, AKA King Khan, or SRK were but I have to say I was not expecting such pandemonium.

After waiting several hours on the red carpet at the Tiff Lightbox for his arrival and the World premiere of his latest Bollywood blockbuster Ra One it began, the frenzy.

I waited patiently at the end of the red carpet, and suddenly he entered with his entourage, (a human wall of muscle surrounded him).

I thought I had no chance of getting a good shot, but somehow I was pushed from the sea of screaming fans behind me and ended up right in front of him.

One overzealous fan even grabbed my arm to try to get a shot and ended up wacking his main security guy in the head! Thankfully he took it well!

Shahrukh graciously posed with his fans for some pics.  Then he entered the stage with his cast,  to intro the movie.

All of a sudden an impromtu Bollywood Dance number with Models from Sama!

My good friend Mariellen Ward from BreatheDreamGo. even managed to get herself on stage as one of the models.

So glad I was there to catch her gettin down with King Khan, such a hoot!

You can read all about her personal experiences with the SRK on her blog.

What a good sport he is I must say! And what a life! I can’t imagine a day in his shoes must be like!

Tying the Knot, Sri Lankan Style!

Niromi and Sanj celebrated their Sri Lankan Culture with a traditional Buddhist wedding ceremony.

Buddhist ceremonies are very different from Hindu, quite simple, yet very beautiful with some wonderful customs to photograph.

Niromi made quite the entrance led in by Sri Lankan dancers and drummers playing the Magul Bera drums. The Magul Bera drums have traditional significance in Sri Lankan culture as they mark special occasions and celebrations.

Traditionally the maternal uncle enters the Poruwa (Ceremony Platform) and ties the small fingers of the bride and groom with a single thread (to symbolize unity) and then pours holy water over the fingers.

Then Niromi and Sanj offered betel leaves to the elders of their families as a beautiful gesture of respect and honor.

Before the ceremony ends Niromi and Sanj Light an oil lamp to signify their resolve to keep the home fires burning and for a bright future.

Following the ceremony and cocktails a beautiful reception followed with a wonderful dance performance by Niromi’s cousin.

Congratulations Niromi and Sanj, I really enjoyed being part of your day!

Sharmi and Bobby

It’s often said that Indian weddings are really not for the Bride and Groom, They are for their families. So true!

But when it comes to the details, fashion, decor, etc. sometimes it is ALL about the Bride!

I think you can see it in this collection of my fav images from Bobbi and Sharmi’s beautiful wedding.  Sharmi was so stunning.

(I am sure she is enjoying poking fun at Bobbie that his face is covered in the first image)

Of course having a fab team certainly helps.

Raana from Sapna Weddings is an extraordinary planner who helped bring all the elements together!

Raj from Dream Party Decor, his work just always blows me away!

Jawad from Film style Weddings, is THE go to guy when it comes to video!

And of course the talented  Shirly Wu from Beauty Concepts.

Venue: Pearson Convention Centre

Congratulations Sharmi and Bobby!

Thank you Raja.

Monica and Anupam

I met Monica a few years back when I photographed her sisters wedding at the Royal York Hotel, in Toronto. Another wedding I will never forget, with a Barat that shut down Front St!

What could top that? Well I have to say that Monica and Anupam’s wedding at the Liberty Grand comes very close! The one thing I LOVE most about shooting Indian weddings is the

close family bonds, which are very clearly evident when you see these photos!  Monica’s Vidaai ceremony nearly had me in tears!  Her father is one of the sweetest

caring fathers I have ever met!  I am so greatful to all my clients who put their trust in me to capture these once in a lifetime events.

Congratulations to you both, it was a beautiful wedding!

You really have captured the familial love so well. A wedding, in the Indian context is a major affair, nothing is too much or too grand…and your pictures have done ample justice to that emotion.
I enjoyed each one of them :)

The Spirit of India – A Photographers Journey

I’ve been very fortunate to travel and photograph weddings all over India.

When I am not busy clicking the festive moments and colorful rituals of Indian Weddings, I like to take time to

travel and explore all that I love about this beautifully diverse, and culturally rich country.

The devotion to spirituality, the incredibly historic palaces, temples, and natural beauty.   It’s a never ending Journey!

This weekend I will be showcasing some of my favorite images in Toronto at  Masala! Mehndi! Masti.

The largest South Asian Festival in North America!

I will also be donating all proceeds from the sale of all framed fine art images to Asha For Education.

Whose stated mission is “to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education of underprivileged children.”

I have visited many of Asha’s Project sites in India, and have witnessed first hand the awesome work this organization is doing in India.

If you happen to be in Toronto this weekend, please do stop by and say hello!

Here’s a sneak peak!

I will be posting more images after the event, so do check back!

Namaste!
