Niromi and Sanj celebrated their Sri Lankan Culture with a traditional Buddhist wedding ceremony.

Buddhist ceremonies are very different from Hindu, quite simple, yet very beautiful with some wonderful customs to photograph.

Niromi made quite the entrance led in by Sri Lankan dancers and drummers playing the Magul Bera drums. The Magul Bera drums have traditional significance in Sri Lankan culture as they mark special occasions and celebrations.

Traditionally the maternal uncle enters the Poruwa (Ceremony Platform) and ties the small fingers of the bride and groom with a single thread (to symbolize unity) and then pours holy water over the fingers.

Then Niromi and Sanj offered betel leaves to the elders of their families as a beautiful gesture of respect and honor.

Before the ceremony ends Niromi and Sanj Light an oil lamp to signify their resolve to keep the home fires burning and for a bright future.

Following the ceremony and cocktails a beautiful reception followed with a wonderful dance performance by Niromi’s cousin.

Congratulations Sharmi and Bobby!

I met Monica a few years back when I photographed her sisters wedding at the Royal York Hotel, in Toronto. Another wedding I will never forget, with a Barat that shut down Front St!

What could top that? Well I have to say that Monica and Anupam’s wedding at the Liberty Grand comes very close! The one thing I LOVE most about shooting Indian weddings is the

close family bonds, which are very clearly evident when you see these photos!  Monica’s Vidaai ceremony nearly had me in tears!  Her father is one of the sweetest

caring fathers I have ever met!  I am so greatful to all my clients who put their trust in me to capture these once in a lifetime events.
