Dubai – The Canadian Connection

With my Sri Lankan holiday over, and a new wedding season around the corner. A week in Dubai was the perfect way to break up the long flight from Colombo to Toronto, visit a few friends and check out what all the fuss is about in this modern metropolis/shopping mecca in the desert. Little did I know that the inquiry I had just received for a wedding in Toronto was from a couple that just happened to be in Dubai the same week as me! Aneal lives and works in Dubai, his fiancé Christine lives in Toronto, and was in Dubai for a visit. Both of their families are from Guyana and they grew up in Canada, friends from a very young age! Sounds like a typical Canadian Love story! ;>)

We met, chatted and then it all just came together, an impromtu photo session, featuring some of Dubai’s infamous architectural highlights, and to my surprise A Canadian Icon! Tim Hortons! After craving a good cup of coffee for 6 weeks in Sri Lanka (tea country) I was pleasantly surprised to find this little piece of home right here in Dubai! It was a fun day out with my fellow Canadians!

Three Ceremonies, Two Sisters, One Incredible Weekend – Part 3 – Nancy Weds Raj

The final chapter, my double Indian wedding weekend in Crystal River, Florida.

This last day was Nancy and Raj’s big day. It started with a photo shoot with both couples.

Thanks to the incredible talents of Make-up artist Susmita Patel.

I also had the pleasure to work with her in New York last July, at Sahina and Sajedul’s wedding, and she is such a dedicated professional!

I was amazed at how quickly she could transform their looks from day to evening, and I LOVED the energy she brings

to the shoot! Can’t say enough about her! I also have to give a shout out to my long time assistant and now second shooter Yianni!

Her attention to detail, and endless enthusiasm even at the last hour of a long weekend like this was definitely a big help!

Three Ceremonies, Two Sisters, One Incredible Weekend – Kinnari Weds Sanjeev

As I sit in my hotel room in Dubai, getting ready to start a new wedding season, I look back on the last six months, with amazement. All the beautiful weddings I have been fortunate to capture, in such stunning locations; Jaipur, Kerala, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, and of course all my wonderful couples! I am so grateful to be given this opportunity to combine my passions of travel and photography together!

So; continuing on from my last post, The double wedding weekend of sisters Kinnari and Nancy, in Crystal River, Florida. Today was Kinnari and Sanjeev’s big day! Kinnari’s family is Gujarati, Saneev’s family comes from Kerala. This meant two ceremonies, A morning Christian ceremony, followed by the evening Hindu ceremony at Kinnari’s beautiful family home. It was quite the eventful day!

Three Ceremonies, Two Sisters, One Incredible weekend!

Last fall, just as I was about to embark on a 6 month trip through India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Dubai, Kinnari and Nancy contacted me about photographing this fabulous double wedding they were planning in Florida. I knew I just had to be there!

So I immediately changed my travel plans and managed to fly back from my wedding in Nepal, a brief stopover in Toronto to catch up with

friends and family and I was on my way to Sunny Florida!

The first night was an informal welcome dinner for close family and friends.

I could tell from their goofy antics how close these two sisters were, and how much sense it made for them to be sharing the same weekend to marry.

It was one of the most special weddings I have ever photographed! With Three beautiful ceremonies, Two Hindu and One Christian.

So many great moments were captured over these three days that I am breaking it up into three separate posts. Here is part 1 – The Haldi Ceremony.

Sri Lanka – A Photographers Paradise!

After a few hectic months of shooting weddings, six weeks off in beautiful Sri Lanka was exactly what I needed.

From a photographers point of view Sri Lanka is truly an inspiring place to be.

Rich cultural heritage, lush green jungles, and tea estates, pristine beaches, and the warmest welcoming people.

I’ve often dreamed about visiting this tropical paradise, and this year decided to make the trip. So far Sri Lanka has not disappointed.

I often heard it compared to Kerala. My favourite place in all of India. But I never expected it to surpass my expectations.

Sri Lanka has captured my heart!

Sweta and Gaurav – Kathmandu

These last few months have been a mind boggling blur or Airports, Hotels, Mandaps, and Marigolds! I am not complaining I have been so blessed, but I am so looking forward to a few weeks of R&R in Sri Lanka! This latest wedding I had the pleasure to photograph in Kathmandu, Nepal, gave me the opportunity of combing my three loves; Photography, Travel, and Indian Culture. After photographing two of Gaurav’s family weddings, one in November and one the week before his, I have been able to get to know their families a little more than I normally would. By the end of this third wedding I felt like I was part of the family! What a great, fun bunch! Sweta Looked beautiful! However as is often the case with weddings, there is little time for a proper photo session with the bride and groom! I was so happy they made time for a location shoot the following day. A beautiful historical hotel in Kathmandu with traditional Nepali architecture. Some of my favourite images this year!

Destination Wedding Photography Workshop in Thailand

Last month I had the pleasure of co-hosting The Ultimate Wedding Photography workshop in Bangalore with fellow photographer Sephi Bergerson. Following the success of the workshop, we are thrilled to announce a destination wedding photography workshop in Phuket, Thailand, on April 20-22nd, 2012. This intensive three day event will be a great mix of lectures, discussions, and assignments in which participants will learn to tackle the challenges of being or becoming a destination wedding photographer, for all that it means.

A Wedding at Jai Mahal Palace

If your looking for the ultimate Indian Fairy Tale wedding experience, nothing beats a Palace wedding in Jaipur. For Samantha and Niraj It was a full three days of events starting with the Mehendi, and welcome dinner, followed by a colorful Sangeet at Rambagh Palace. The main event, the wedding was set amongst the beautiful Moghul Gardens, and traditional Rajasthani Architecture of Jai Mahal Palace . What a stunning sight to see Samantha carried away after the ceremony on a beautifully decorated Palanquin.

When Samantha called me from Sydney to tell me about her destination wedding in Jaipur, I knew it would be one to remember! She also told me that photography was a very important aspect of her wedding and that she wanted the best coverage possible! Often couples will hire additional local photographers thinking that the more coverage the better. While this may be partly true, it can also present very unique challenges when working with an unfamiliar photo/video entourage. I will often tell my couples how important it is to have your photographers working together as a team. So for Samantha’s wedding I brought on second photographer Joshua Komanapalli, along with his Cinematography Team. I can not tell you what a big difference it makes working together this way! I have to give a shout out to Josh for a Stellar Job!

A Gujarati Wedding in Surat

Arti and Amar are both Gujarati, The very first wedding I photographed in India was a Gujarati wedding in 2007 in Ahmedabad.

I had not been back since so I was really looking forward to their wedding in Surat. Arti looked gorgeous, the decor was incredible, and the Gujarati food

was so yummy! I was amazed how they fed all the 1500 or so guests, three seatings, under a beautiful tent. It was like the whole village turned up, I think they did! I also want to give a shout out to my associate Priyanka Sachar for helping me out with the first days Pithi Ceremonies.
