A Wedding at Jai Mahal Palace

If your looking for the ultimate Indian Fairy Tale wedding experience, nothing beats a Palace wedding in Jaipur. For Samantha and Niraj It was a full three days of events starting with the Mehendi, and welcome dinner, followed by a colorful Sangeet at Rambagh Palace. The main event, the wedding was set amongst the beautiful Moghul Gardens, and traditional Rajasthani Architecture of Jai Mahal Palace . What a stunning sight to see Samantha carried away after the ceremony on a beautifully decorated Palanquin.

When Samantha called me from Sydney to tell me about her destination wedding in Jaipur, I knew it would be one to remember! She also told me that photography was a very important aspect of her wedding and that she wanted the best coverage possible! Often couples will hire additional local photographers thinking that the more coverage the better. While this may be partly true, it can also present very unique challenges when working with an unfamiliar photo/video entourage. I will often tell my couples how important it is to have your photographers working together as a team. So for Samantha’s wedding I brought on second photographer Joshua Komanapalli, along with his Cinematography Team. I can not tell you what a big difference it makes working together this way! I have to give a shout out to Josh for a Stellar Job!

A Gujarati Wedding in Surat

Arti and Amar are both Gujarati, The very first wedding I photographed in India was a Gujarati wedding in 2007 in Ahmedabad.

I had not been back since so I was really looking forward to their wedding in Surat. Arti looked gorgeous, the decor was incredible, and the Gujarati food

was so yummy! I was amazed how they fed all the 1500 or so guests, three seatings, under a beautiful tent. It was like the whole village turned up, I think they did! I also want to give a shout out to my associate Priyanka Sachar for helping me out with the first days Pithi Ceremonies.

Neena and Alex’s Wedding in Kerala

So after my three week break in beautiful Kerala, I was all set for my third wedding in Gods Own Country. Palakkad, Kerala is the family home of Neena. Her parents spend their winters in Kerala and Summers in Canada! Lucky people! My favourite moment of the wedding was on the Sangeet night, Neena’s brother flew all the way from Toronto, and surprised Neena. (She thought he would not be able to make it to the wedding) What a wonderful surprise! I was so happy for her! Another favourite moment was watching Neena’s beautiful Bharatanatyam dance performance. She is a trained Classical Indian Dancer, and studied with the renowned Menaka Thakkar Dance Company in Toronto. What a treat! It was a beautiful wedding, congratulations to you both!

Enjoying the Simple Life, Kerala Style

So I am well rested now after my first few weddings of the season here in India.

Thanks to an incredible month off in Kerala. My Fourth Visit to “Gods Own Country”

Still the beauty here takes my breath away! It’s like stepping back in time, to simpler days, watching the village life drift by in Alleppey.

The stunning red cliffs of Varkala Beach. The warmest, friendliest people. Many who were so kind to offer help when needed, inviting me into there homes,

and even feeding me wonderful traditional meals served on a banana leaf. I am so greatful for the new friends I have made here and

can not wait to come back again! It is truely an inspiring place! Just what I needed before I take on the next few weeks of back to back weddings.

Tanya and Vishal – Kolkata

Its been almost one year since my first wedding in Kolkata. I never thought I would make it back here again. But then I met Tanya’s father Ravi in Toronto a few months back.
Tanya is also from Toronto, and met Vishal there too, so it was great having that Canadian connection with them. Many of their friends and family also travelled to Kolkata for the wedding festivities. The wedding took place at the Luxurius Swissotel. I must thank their families for putting me up there too, such a warm, kind family I was really touched by their wonderful hospitality, truly Indian! So THANK YOU!
And congratulations Tanya and Vishal!

A Rajasthani Style Wedding in Jaipur

After photographing a few weddings in Jaipur, and all over India now I have become well aware of the diversity of this great Countries people, I have also learned so much about how each region or caste has their own wedding traditions. Sumedha and Sagars families both come from the Marwar Region of Rajasthan, and belong to the trader community called Baniya. Baniyas are conservative, and enterprising. They are also family people who respect family values. Which means, they respect their women and elders and instill good values in their children. I could tell from spending a few days with Sumedha’s family how closely knit they were. Such a pleasure to be a part of! The wedding itself had some beautiful rich details, gorgeous floral decor, wonderful heartfelt moments, delicious Rajasthani food, and traditions, all the elements that make for a beautiful wedding story! Here’s a collection of my favorite images.

Let the games begin!

So I am back in Delhi again ready to kick off the wedding season.
Photographing a wedding in India is usually a non stop, sleep depriving week long celebration.
So after a few days chilling out. I’m all ready for another whirlwind wedding tour of India.
It’s really amazing to be able to witness the diversity of this Country,
each region has very different customs and traditions when it comes to weddings.
I feel very privileged to be able to take part in such wonderful rituals.
So stay tuned for some highlights from my latest journey as I get an inside ticket to photograph some of the most colorful celebrations ever!

Pretty in Pink

Amina and Shafik had a simple yet beautiful Nikkah (Muslim Ceremony).

It was so nice to see such support from family and friends, many came from their home; South Africa.

The evening reception followed at The Liberty Grand, I loved the stunning Pink themed decor by: The perfect setting,

Wedding Planner Raana from: Sapna Weddings, was on hand to ensure the day ran smoothly. (It always does when Raana is involved!)

Celebrating Diwali with Shahrukh Khan – Ra One World Premiere

I’ve heard how hard core the fans for Shahrukh Khan, AKA King Khan, or SRK were but I have to say I was not expecting such pandemonium.

After waiting several hours on the red carpet at the Tiff Lightbox for his arrival and the World premiere of his latest Bollywood blockbuster Ra One it began, the frenzy.

I waited patiently at the end of the red carpet, and suddenly he entered with his entourage, (a human wall of muscle surrounded him).

I thought I had no chance of getting a good shot, but somehow I was pushed from the sea of screaming fans behind me and ended up right in front of him.

One overzealous fan even grabbed my arm to try to get a shot and ended up wacking his main security guy in the head! Thankfully he took it well!

Shahrukh graciously posed with his fans for some pics. Then he entered the stage with his cast, to intro the movie.

All of a sudden an impromtu Bollywood Dance number with Models from Sama!

My good friend Mariellen Ward from BreatheDreamGo. even managed to get herself on stage as one of the models.

So glad I was there to catch her gettin down with King Khan, such a hoot!
